Trigger Point Therapy

If you are experiencing pain such as neck, lower back, knee pain or are suffering from headaches, reduced range of motion, stiffness or a niggle that just won’t go away, Trigger Point Therapy and Deep Tissue Massage could be your answer.

What can cause trigger points

  • .Tired over used muscles through sports or exercise
  • Heavy lifting
  • Emotional stress
  • Anxiety
  • Poor sleeping habits
  • Repetitive strain
  • Trauma (whiplash)

What is Deep Tissue Massage

This type of massage focuses on releasing deep myofascial knots and tension in deeper muscles, tendons and ligaments of the body. Slow deep strokes are used to release chronic muscle tension, help to free trapped nerves, oxygenate poorly circulated areas and break down stubborn knots in muscles.

What are trigger points
A trigger point is basically a knot in your soft tissue that impairs muscle function and can cause pain. The pain is often not felt on the trigger point itself, but referred to another point in the body. For example, a trigger point in the muscle of the shoulder can cause pain radiating down the arm, not just in the shoulder itself. You may have trigger points in your shoulders that cause headaches up the neck and in the temple area. A trigger point deep in the gluteal (buttock) muscles can cause sciatic pain down the leg. This is why they can often be missed in treatments, and thus the pain just won’t go away or goes away after periods of activity.

How does the treatment work?

Your treatment will begin with a full detailed consultation to ascertain your needs and form a treatment plan. A slow deep massage will help to relax and soften muscles and advanced techniques will be used to locate trigger points.Working within your pain threshold, using client feedback and deep breathing techniques these areas of tension will be released.

How many and how much?
Most treatments will require 60 to 90 minutes, not including consultation time. Some trigger points may have built up over long periods of time, you may feel the results instantly or may require more sessions, between 1 and 6 treatments will usually help to reduce and possibly eliminate them.
Once this is achieved a treatment every 4 to 6 weeks is recommended to prevent the tension rebuilding. I am also able to give you some stretches to perform at home and show you some trigger points so you are able to self-treat in between treatments.

Treatment Prices - £39 per hour or £26 for half an hour, including a free consultation.
